This hair style looks like it’s been create partly with rope braids with weave pieces of hair. I’ve seen a brilliant video on You Tube by a woman called Lilith Moon who make excellent hair tutorials, here she is showing you how to do a simple rope braid.  In this video she demonstrates how to use one as a headband but it gives you a good idea of how she creates the braid.
