How to wear a tiara
You tend to only wear a tiara once, on your wedding day, so you may be unsure of how to wear a wedding tiara. This blog post will give you a basic idea of where wedding tiaras can be placed but if you have a hairdresser who will be doing your hair on your wedding day, make sure you consult with them as they may be able to give more advice specific to your particular hair style.
There are numerous places you can position your wedding tiara, no particular position is better than others. It does come down to personal preference and your wedding hair style. Below are the common places where brides tend to place their tiaras, you can use this a starting point.
Wearing your tiara at the front of the head
If you’ve got a fringe your wedding tiara can look excellent placed on the parting of your fringe and the rest of your hair meet. This looks even better if you plan to backcomb the hair at the top of your head to add height as the tiara will act as a frame and a focal point.
Wearing your tiara on the top the head
Placing your tiara further back on your head is perfect for a bride whose bridal hairstyle keeps the hair at the front of the head quite flat and close to the scalp. Most people see this as a traditional place to add a tiara. You may find that you need to bend the tiara band ends around the back of your head to prevent them from sticking out; as long as the band is flexible enough you should easily be able to do this a small amount of pressure and secure into place with grips.
Wearing your tiara at the back of the head
When it was suggested to my for my own wedding that I should wear a tiara around the back of my head, I thought it a little odd until it was pointed out that my wedding guests would be looking at the back of me for the entire ceremony. I know from working with brides that a small number have worn their wedding tiara at the back of the heads and added some more decoration around the front with pearl or crystal pins.
Using your tiara as a bun wrap
Some tiaras especially those with flexible bands are suitable to be worn as bun wraps. If you’re choosing a tiara for this purpose make sure you pick one with a thin wire base, preferably handmade as these can be bent into shape without much resistance. Then they just need pinning into place with grips.
Wearing a tiara with your hair down
If you’re planning on wearing your hair down on your wedding day, it’s probably best to place your tiara towards the front of your head to ensure the ends of the band don’t stick out. Tiaras aren’t worn like a headband so the easiest way to make sure you’ve got it at the right angle is to sit it on top of your head and push the ends of the band down slightly. This should allow the wedding tiara to tilt backwards at a tiny angle and will allow you to secure it will grips underneath the top layer of hair if needed.

I wore my hair down and did indeed have my tiara to the front of my head. My hairdresser was wonderful and sorted it all out for me thankfully.

This is really helpful, I’d bought a tiara weeks ago and keep placing it on my head like a headband and couldn’t understand why it didn’t look right.
